Every time I try to record an IGA lesson, shortly after pressing the SAVE
button the following error appears:
Encoder.Setup () Failed: 80070057
Interactive Frontiers has determined this problem to be caused by out of date
drivers for certain audio hardware. As of this writing, it has only been
reported by users who have an ESS sound chip on a laptop computer.
The V1 Professional 5.0 software requires 100% DirectX 8 compatible hardware
and drivers to be installed on your system. Some laptop computers that ship with
Windows 2000 include drivers for the ESS sound chip that are not fully
compatible with some of the newer audio features available with DirectX 8.0.
Because the driver cannot interpret the command to capture audio when IGA lesson
recording begins, the resulting lesson video is generated with an audio stream
that contains no information. Windows Media Encoder is not able to package a
video that has an empty audio stream, therefore an error message is generated.
The correction is made by installing newer device drivers for your ESS
product. You should visit your computer manufacturer's website and download a
newer device driver for your soundcard. Once this driver is installed, you
should be able to record IGA lessons without receiving the error message.
If you are receiving this error message, and you do not have an ESS Soundcard
in your system, or you are not using the Windows 2000 operating system, please
send a detailed message containing the exact error message and a detailed
description of your computer hardware so we may investigate further. You should
also consider updating your soundcard drivers, as this problem could easily
happen on other hardware as well.
It is considered good practice to keep your device drivers for all of your
computer hardware up to date. When a newer driver for a product is posted, it is
usually posted to correct a problem found in an earlier release, to increase
stability or efficiency, or to add a new feature to the system. Device drivers
can usually be obtained from the PC manufacturer, however on occasion you may
have to get them from the actual hardware manufacturer, as is usually the case
for video card drivers. It is especially important that you install the newest
available device drivers immediately following a new Windows installation (ie.
following a hard disk failure or operating system upgrade), as the drivers
bundled with the operating system generally lack all advanced features, and are
present only so you can use the computer to download the correct drivers.
